Friendly Reminder: Fed is Best!

Friendly reminder to all the mommies out there that fed is best! 

We are PRO-MOM here!

Whether you’re breastfeeding or switching to formula, your baby will be just fine! Breast milk is considered the gold standard for infant nutrition.

The AAP recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months of life, followed by a combination of breast milk and solids until age 1.

So what things can Mom do to promote successful breastfeeding? 

  • First & foremost, make sure you’re taking care of YOU!

  • Eat a healthy, balanced diet.

  • Drink plenty of fluids.

  • Rest as much as possible!

  • Keep the environment calm & relaxed!

  • Don’t be nervous to ask for help from friends & family.

But what if it’s not going well? What if baby has trouble latching? Or you’re not producing enough milk? Or it is too painful?

  • Lactation consultants are readily available and ready to help should you have any questions!

    • They are specialized in teaching moms how to increase their milk supply, find the best nursing position, or how to manage breastfeeding pain.

  • Don’t forget your healthcare provider is always there to support you as well!

But there are many different ways you can make sure that baby receives adequate nutrition and hydration besides through exclusive breastfeeding!

  • If baby doesn’t take to the breast, you can pump and bottle-feed!

    • Make sure to pump as often as you would normally nurse your baby to keep up the supply.

  • You can also pump & supplement with formula if your supply is low!

  • Or you can exclusively feed formula! There are many different brands out there, so asking your baby’s pediatrician for a recommendation is a great first step!

At the end of the day, focus on nourishing and nurturing your baby - whichever way works best!

Remember: A fed baby is a happy baby!
