Having a baby can be an exciting experience, but it also comes with tons of worry, anticipation and uncertainty. With all the advice circulating online, it can be hard to figure out who to listen to.
The first thing you should do if you suspect you may be pregnant is to see your doctor!
Things you can do to keep yourself & your baby healthy throughout your pregnancy include:
Take a daily prenatal vitamin - including folic acid, iron and calcium.
Avoid alcohol.
It can seriously impact your baby’s health during pregnancy and cause birth defects and developmental disabilities.
Don’t smoke.
It is unhealthy for both you and your unborn baby and can increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome, premature birth or even miscarriage.
Limit caffeine.
Consuming too much caffeine during pregnancy can have some major health risks.
Exercise regularly.
Staying active during pregnancy can help ease discomfort, control your weight, reduce stress or simply boost your mood. Check with your doctor how much exercise is right for you!
Avoid certain foods, such as raw meats or fish, raw eggs, soft cheeses, or unpasteurized milk.
Check your medications.
Before taking any over-the-counter medications, check in with your doctor to make sure they are safe for you and your baby.
Stay hydrated.
During pregnancy your blood volume increases up to 50%, so you need more water to support that gain.
Get plenty of sleep!
Eat a healthy & balanced diet to ensure your baby gets all the nutrients it needs to grow healthy and strong.
